evolution. We conclude that, unfortunately, the spectrum is very tilted, with spectral index ns = 3. The amplitude of fluctuations at horizon crossing is given by < (δρ/ρ) >∼ (R0/d)2S−1 E k, where SE 1 is the Euclidean action of the instanton describing the nucleation of a bubble and k is the wavenumber in units of the curvature scale. The spectrum peaks on the smallest possible relevant scale, whose wave-number is given by k ∼ d/R0. We comment on the possible extension of our formalism to more general situations where a Big Bang is ignited through the collision of 4D extended

On the Big Bounce Singularity of a Simple 5D Cosmological Model
The big bounce singularity of a simple 5D cosmological model is studied. Contrary to the standard big bang space-time singularity, this big bounce singularity is found to be an event horizon at which the scale factor and the mass density of the universe are finite, while the pressure undergoes a sudden transition from negative infinity to positive infinity. By using coordinate transformation it...
متن کاملGenerating Ekpyrotic Curvature Perturbations Before the Big Bang
We analyze a general mechanism for producing a nearly scale-invariant spectrum of cosmological curvature perturbations during a contracting phase preceding a big bang, that can be entirely described using 4d effective field theory. The mechanism, based on first producing entropic perturbations and then converting them to curvature perturbations, can be naturally incorporated in cyclic and ekpyr...
متن کاملInflation, quantum fluctuations and cosmological perturbations
These lectures are intended to give a pedagogical introduction to the main current picture of the very early universe. After elementary reviews of general relativity and of the standard Big Bang model, the following subjects are discussed: inflation, the classical relativistic theory of cosmological perturbations and the generation of perturbations from scalar field quantum fluctuations during ...
متن کاملGauge-dependent cosmological 'constant'
When the cosmological constant of spacetime is derived from the 5D inducedmatter theory of gravity, we show that a simple gauge transformation changes it to a variable measure of the vacuum which is infinite at the big bang and decays to an astrophysically acceptable value at late epochs. We outline implications of this for cosmology and galaxy formation. PACS numbers: 04.20.Cv, 04.50.+h, 98.62...
متن کاملIntroduction to Cosmology
The standard big bang cosmological model and the history of the early universe according to the grand unified theories of strong, weak and electromagnetic interactions are summarized. The shortcomings of big bang are discussed together with their resolution by inflationary cosmology. Inflation and the subsequent oscillation and decay of the inflaton field are studied. The density perturbations ...
